As we looked to store Lulu for the winter months, we had a lead on a barn, with a steep incline, and some bumps. It was the best we could find for the size, turns out we had a detour. Our business landed a sweet shop with room to store her. We moved her before any of the snow hit us and she’s been drying out.
Things started to pop here and there. I found bits of trim molding on the floor, lots of cracking and things starting to twist and turn.
Last Summer, we measured and drew up the floor plan.

We got our tools and started to demo the Observation Lounge. We labeled the wall panels and will store them for future measuring. We scrapped all the trim, the lounge cabinet, insulation and mirrors. We weighed everything!
It was extremely easy. Giving us hope to return.
Feeling accomplished we tackled another section before the Super Bowl game (2-4-18). We removed the sink, stove, cabinets, and water heater. Again, weighing it. The toughest part of this was removing the stove. The stove was mounted on wood trim. The wood trim was added to the stove, in a fashion more like screwing it in backwards. So, then the screws on the wood trim, were screwed into the floor. I had to remove the broiler to get to the screws. Even though it was tough, it still wasn’t too bad.
For the course of two days – we removed 600 pounds of material. Yes, my mate makes me weigh things to find out the total amount removed – and so we can make sure we lighten the load as much as possible in the re-build.
And, with this going better than we expected, we’re starting to plan the finishing details. Well, not the really shiny details, however all the mechanics to the finish details.
And then, that’s when I decided. We are removing the furnace – and I want a fireplace insert. I want it as the primary source of heat. Oh and I really want heated floors. I suppose planning the heat source on a Wisconsin winter day (it’s 2 degrees today) is a bit of a risk.
Off to get another cup of coffee and plan the next section of demolition.
